Mount Rite (2,181 m), above Cibiana di Cadore, is home to the Messner Mountain Museum, where Reinhold Messner houses the most beautiful paintings depicting the Dolomites and displays them before a stunning panorama (40 minutes by car + 15 minute shuttle).
We recommend you visit the Lagazuoi - 5 Towers area, one of the most beautiful spots in the Dolomites. World War I was fought here and the WWI Museum was created here to commemorate those tragic events, reconstructing the trenches, shelters and tunnels.
Perhaps everyone is not aware that the great sixteenth century painter, Tiziano Vecellio, was born in Pieve di Cadore (25 km), where you can visit his home. Also in Pieve di Cadore, we recommend the Eyeglass Museum housed in a glass building with a futuristic design.

Cortina hosts important international sports competitions including the women's World Ski Cup, men's and women's International Bob Competitions, the Dobbiaco-Cortina cross country ski race and an exciting glamour event: Cortina Winter Polo, on the beautiful ice-covered Lake Misurina.
Summer events
The Cortina Incontra program offers an interesting agenda of meetings bringing together renowned members of Italy's political, cultural and economic spheres. From mid-July to the end of August at the Palalexus Convention Center (free admission).
Folk music and costume lovers can't miss the Festa de ra Bandes, at the end of August. A week of concerts held by the best bands in Northern Italy.
Wine lovers can attend the famous Vino Vip wine tasting event held every other year at the Faloria Hut: you can taste some of the best wines in the world in a location with a breathtaking view.

Just a few kilometers from Cortina d'Ampezzo, San Vito di Cadore is a delightful alpine village in the heart of the Dolomites at the foot of Mount Pelmo, Antelao and Marcora.

The famous Dolomite bicycle path (50 km) runs next to the hotel park and easily leads to Dobbiaco to the North and Pieve di Cadore to the South. San Vito also provides a well-tended golf course near Cortina and an enchanting lake where you can sun bathe and relax. The 1,000 m altitude lets everyone benefit from the mountain climate without high altitude inconveniences.
Cortina d'Ampezzo, with its vast ski area and elegant international boutiques, is just 10 km away (a 10 minute car ride).
How to get there
By Car
From the South, take highway A27 Venice - Belluno and then the state road for Cortina. When you reach downtown San Vito di Cadore, turn right on Via Ladinia just a few meters before the town church.
From the North, from the Brennero highway, exit at Bressanone and head towards Dobbiaco and Cortina (about 1 and a half hours away). Once in San Vito, turn left on Via Ladinia just before the town church.
By Train
The closest train station to the South is in Calalzo di Cadore (35 km), while the closest to the North is in Dobbiaco (40 km).
By Plane
The closest airports are in Treviso (120 km) and Venice (150 km).
